Compare and Contrast

How is Parvana's family the SAME as other Afghan families?

  1. Parvana's family is the same in many ways. For example, all of the families in Kabul are influenced by the Taliban. Most of them have women in their lives so for most families it is very hard for their mother not to go out and do the shopping and do the things that a mother would normally do. Sadly, all girls are forbidden to go to school, so most girls have had no education. The Taliban believe that knowledge = power and the do not want the Afghany people to have POWER.

  2. Her family is the same as other Afghan families because a lot of families there have girls pretending to be boys. Many girls have to dress up like boys, so that they can earn money and go to school. Families in Afghanistan, because of the Talib taking over and the bombings, have had to move from house to house. I think that in many ways Parvana's family is the same as others, but in other ways their family is different.

  3. Their family is the same because:
*They live in the same place as other families
*Maybe some other family is facing the same stuff that they are facing (Their dad's in prison and they have to dress Parvana as a boy)
*Other families still have to deal with the Taliban
*Other families still obey the Taliban rules

  4. As most Afgan families do, Parvana's family has a woman who does not go outdoors and wears a burqa. Food is not easy to come by, though they do not starve. And many families who do not have a boy of appropraite age have a girl dress as a boy, like Parvana. Parvana has to get water from an outdoor tap; most families do not have indoor running water. Almost every house they've known has been bombed, and they have lost money and belongings every time. They are forced to sell what they do not need for survival, including parvana's shalwar kameez.

  16. Parvana's family is like other Afghan families that are under the Taliban's rule. They have little freedom and have lost most their personal items due to the bombings. They all have very little money and no jobs. Like other Afghan families, Parvana has to dress up as a boy in order to work for money and get things done for her family. All Afghan families are prisoners in their own homes. Women especially do not have power. They cannot go out and do simple things like shop for food or meet friends in public places. However, men can go out alone. It's a sad life they have.
