After reading chapter 3, please post a comment about anything you feel is important to discuss in class tomorrow.

  1. I think that it is important that we discuss this:

    1. That Parvana and her mother go to jail to try to get Parvana's father back, but do not succeed.
    2. Parvana and her mother get beat but do no stop saying "Let my husband out, he hasn't commited a crime.." and "Let my father go".
    3. Nooria has to right a letter pretending that it is her father saying that her mother and Parvana are allowed to be on the streets, it is against the law for women past a certain age to be on the streets without a man in company.

  3. I think we should discuss these things:

1.) Nooria said that most of the Taliban couldn't read. Which makes me think that Parvana's family will somehow use that against them.
2.)Why Mother chose Parvana to go to the jail with her.
    3.) Why photographs were illegal.
4.)Paravana and her mom screamed for her dad to be released and the soldiers first instinct was to beat them.

  4. i agree with elissa. i think this chapter was very interesting and showed a lot of bravery. We could definitely add some of this to the bravery column on our theme document. Also, some more in the repression rights.
    1. Parvana and her mother go to jail to try and get her father out.
    2. The soldiers beat them with sticks and tear the picture of her father
    3. They are not allowed to have pictures and their window has to be painted black so that people can't see the women inside.
    4. Nooria must write a letter pretending that she is father incase the Soliders ask her mom why she is out of the house without a male with her.

  5. Important details to discuss are:

    * Why are pictures illegal?
    * Parvana saved the remains of her torn up picture of father. Why?
    * Why did they use the phrase "Parvana and I are going to the market to get peaches" I think the market = jail and Peaches=father.
    * How had Parvana's parents reacted to the order getting their windows painted black so you can't see the women inside? A: They didn't paint.
the window's black because, they thought it was wrong and their windows were so small no one would have even noticed.
