  3. I do like the breadwinner book so far because I like knowing what really happens in Afghanistan.
    The book is the kind of book you don't want to stop reading. I wonder what will Parvana's family do with out father and I wonder if father is alive or not. When Maddie Ochoa explained that breadwinner ment the person who earns the money in the family the story made a lot more sense to me.
    Inference- I think Parvana will dress like a boy to get a job (for money) go outside to get what the family's needs (because women can't).

    This story reminds me of the article boy or girl
    and I think that is why Melissa showed the article it to us.

  8. I do like this book. I have always had a hard time reading very sad or devistating books i do like it i think it is a little intense for me but i think i can handle it! So overall I think this book is good because of the way it teaches kids to be grateful of how their country is formed. I appreciate the author trying to reach out to an unfourtiante place so kids can read and understand how Afghanistan really is.

  10. Love it, I like the way it was written, and one thing that bugs me enough to make me stop reading the book is various speaker endings. Instead of "said father" millions of time you get more interesting ones.

  14. i like this book very much because first of all, it is a very interesting story. second, it has alot of interesting info about afghanistan that i never knew! for some reason i love books that are sad and come out to a happy ending(at least i hope there is a happy ending). I want to read more and more of it every day but i stop myself. lastly, i agree with greta, the way it teaches kids like us to be grateful to how this country was formed and live in the USA. i wish there was a sequel to this book!

  15. This is one of those books that you just don't want to put down. I think it's an amazing book with brave characters, exciting adventures, and descriptive language. I enjoy reading about something that is from a completely different world, or country, from ours. Also, hearing about how girls go through their lives in Afghanistan makes the book so much more interesting. Thank you for choosing this book Melissa!

  16. I think The Breadwinner is an amazing book. I find that hearing about another country that is so utterly different from ours in a brave girl's point of view. I love the author's descriptive words and great emotions that make you feel like you have just fallen into a new world like you would a pool of water. And I like how the characters show different and intricate personalities. I think you made an excellent choice of this book, Melissa!

  18. I love this book so far and most of
    all learning about afghan culture,
    government, education, customs and
    the story itself I can't wait to read more
    I feel so good that I have all of this from
    living in a great house, all the way to
    actually getting to eat. It is UNBELIEVABLE
    that all of these afghans can barley even get
    food 2 eat :{
